Electrocardiogram, tracing An electrocardiogram (often abbreviated as EKG or ECG) is a simple, painless test that records the heart's electrical activity. The test shows how fast the heart is beating, whether the rhythm of the heartbeat is steady or irregular, and the strength and timing of electrical signals as they pass through each part of the heart. An EKG can be used to diagnose various heart conditions. Note: Estimates below are based on Medica Choice network contract rates and include facility fees, as well as fees for the cardiologist who interprets the test results.
